Yordano Ventura has been a rare bright spark for the Kansas City Royals this year. The hard throwing right handed starting pitcher has posted a sublime 2.80 ERA this season with an amazing 56 strikeouts in only 54 innings. However, there is much concern over Ventura, after he exited the game last night in only the third inning.

In what was a very unorthodox start for Ventura, the Dominican rookie allowed a career high five runs to a hot Astros offense. If that wasn’t bad enough for the Royals, Ventura was pulled from the game, and will now have an MRI scan on his elbow to check out the discomfort he experienced.

Given the epidemic of elbow injuries to pitchers this year, the injury is a worrying sign. Ventura seems relatively optimsitic though, after he spoke to MLB.com about the injury.

"“I came out of the game but, thank God, after the treatment, I started feeling better,” Ventura said. “So I’ll see how I feel tomorrow after the tests.” Had he experienced such discomfort before? “No, this is the first time,” Ventura said. Manager Ned Yost added, “I’m not concerned it’s a ligament injury,” Yost said. “The trainers were right on it, and they came two minutes later and said it’s the outside of the elbow, and that’s where my concern dropped way off.”"

Yost also went on to add, they were concerned right from the start, as his velocity was much lower than usual, and he struggled with his control.
