Following a truly horrific day for New York Mets reliever, Jose Valverde, he  has become a free agent. In blowing his second save this season, Valverde allowed  four runs as he was brought in to record the four out save.

More from MLB

Valverde joins Kyle Farnsworth, as the second reliever released by the Mets this year.

Valverde, like Farnsworth, was once the Mets closer, but after many bad displays, was released. Farnsworth didn’t struggle to find a new club, and Valverde should follow suit.

Vic Black, who pitched for the Mets this weekend as the 26th man on the roster for the doubleheader, will take Valverde’s place on the roster.

In what was a very interesting point by Adam Rubin of ESPN, he noted that sometimes managers use players they have no use for to send a message to the general manager.

Rather fittingly, after Terry Collins called struggling Valverde in for the four out save in a very high leverage situation, he failed spectacularly, and was released instantly after.

Valverde has a 5.66 ERA this season, with 23 strikeouts and 10 walks in 23 innings after the Mets signed him on a minor league deal in the offseason.
