It would seem that the latest thriller for Scarlett Johansson is going to arrive a little sooner than originally expected. The sci-fi action film Lucy was originally scheduled to be released on August 8th; however, the people over at Universal Pictures have decided to move the release two weeks ahead. The film is now being released on July 25, 2014.
This means that the film will face some pretty stiff competition in its opening week. Also scheduled to be released that day is the action adventure epic Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson and the new comedy from Columbia Pictures entitled Sex Tape starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel.
In Lucy, Scarlett Johansson, who plays the title character, finds herself in a rather precarious position. Lucy finds herself as an unwilling drug mule when she is drugged by a group of men who surgically implant a bag of drugs into her body and force her to transport it for her.
Somewhere along the way, she is intercepted and subsequently tortured. During said attack, she is kicked in the abdomen which punctures the bag and causes the drug to leak into her system.
Suddenly, she begins to evolve into something much greater than herself. She finds herself about to learn new languages in seconds, fight like a someone who has had years of combat training, and even see the very life force within things.
The real question is…what happens when she reaches 100%?
