Community may find its sixth season on Hulu

Two weeks ago, the hearts of all the fans of Greendale College collectively broke when the news came out that the popular series Community had been cancelled after the conclusion of its fifth season.

Everyone was hoping that the series would find a home elsewhere; however, it was beginning to look grim when everyone involved, including series creator Dan Harmon, had seemingly given up on the concept of the show returning. However, now it would seem that there is a glimmer of hope after all that Community may find a new home for its sixth season.

According to Deadline, the online streaming service Hulu is in talks with Sony Pictures TV to create more original installments of the comedic series.

They stress that the conversations between the two sides are very preliminary and that there is no guarantee that the discussions will ever lead to a deal; however, this is the closest that we have come to the possibility of a return since the show’s cancellation was originally announced.

While Community may not have been the single most watched show on television today, that spot is usually held by cable shows like HBO’s Game of Thrones; however, the fans of the show are a dedicated bunch and would certainly follow Community to wherever the show may ultimately end up should a deal ever come into fruition.

Being completely honest, Hulu is the perfect home for a show like Community. There is already a deal in place between the two sides to stream all past content of the show, so if you are new to the show, or maybe just trying to catch up, the episodes are all available for you in one nice, neat package.

Another selling point would be the streaming service’s track record with reviving shows after they have met their doom at the hands of their original networks.

As Deadline points out, the online streaming service has a knack for getting series like Drop Dead Diva, which was cancelled by Lifetime, and Rules of Engagement, which was another show that met its end at the hands of NBC, back on the air and successful for seasons to come after their initial cancellation.

Like I said before, there is no deal in place at this minute, nor is there a guarantee that one will come into fruition; however, at least at this point there is a glimmer of hope that we will get to see Jeff, Britta, Abed, and the rest of the Greendale crew once again.

Would the re-emergence of a series like Community entice you to subscribe to a service like Hulu Plus? Are you one of those fans like myself that are sitting on the edge of their seats just waiting for word of their favorite show to return for a new season?
