NBA Draft 2014: Doug McDermott ‘beat the system’
Very rarely do you see legitimate NBA prospects stay in school for four years any more.

Especially when you are as productive as former Creighton Blue Jays’ forward Doug McDermott. McDermott averaged at least 15 points per game in each of his four season, at least 22.9 in his final three years and put up a career-high 26.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the Blue Jays. He shot 52.6% from the field, 44.9% from beyond the arc and 86.4% from the free throw line.
That’s why many consider McDermott, who could be a top-1o pick and will almost certainly be a lottery pick in next month’s 2014 NBA Draft “beat the system,” returning to school and improving his stock each season. McDermott, however, does not agree.
“I haven’t beat the system yet,” McDermott told Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com. “But it’s really cool. I feel like I did everything the right way throughout my four years and feel like this is kind of a bonus for me just because all of the hard work I put in, being around great people and working hard every day. This is definitely a great moment.”
“I feel like a lot of people could look up to me now and what I did as a four-year player. Each year I look at as an opportunity to get better. I never got satisfied, I never got comfortable with myself. I just continued to push myself and it got me to where I am now.”
McDermott is 10th-best prospect in the draft according to Draft Express.
