For the first time since 2003, the Denver Nuggets were not in the postseason in 2014.

More from Denver Nuggets

Although they lost star swingman Andre Iguodala in the offseason and fought through injuries to several key players including forward Danilo Gallinari, point guards Ty Lawson and Nate Robinson, power forward J.J. Hickson, forward Darrel Arthur, wing Wilson Chandler and center JaVale McGee, missing the postseason is clearly unacceptable in Denver.

That’s why the Nuggets are going to try to make a big splash in the offseason.

According to Nuggets’ general manager Tim Connelly, who spoke with Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post, the Nuggets will try to do just that.

"“We’ve got a lot of things at our disposal,” Connelly said. “We have the 11th pick, obviously, we have our picks going forward, we have a pretty big trade exception (worth $9.8 million), and I think we have a bunch of players who are well thought-of outside our locker room and they’re on contracts that if we deem them movable guys it’s not hard to move them.”The Nuggets’ traded player exception allows them to take on that amount in salary without sending a closely matched player in salary and having it affect their cap number. Should he see a player worth shuffling the roster, Connelly has no problem pulling the trigger.“Josh (Kroenke) has given us his full support for anything that’s not a lateral move. We don’t’ want to make a move to make a move. But if we think that that (traded player exception) allows us to do something impactful, then we have full support of ownership and I think we’ll go for it.”"

The Nuggets obviously won’t be a player for marquee free agents like LeBron James or Dwyane Wade, but they still have the ammunition to make a move.
