The Sacramento Kings were quick to emerge on the scene when rumors of Kevin Love‘s potential availability hit the wire.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

They of course weren’t the only team to do so, though, they are the only team to suggest that they would trade for Love even if he’s unwilling to sign a contract extension with them.

It’s a pretty bold and risky statement from the Kings, who are set to move into their new arena come the 2016 season, but despite such a sentiment it may not be enough for the Timberwolves according to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee.

“If the Kings could make a deal without giving up a key player (Cousins), taking a gamble makes sense,” says Jones. “Maybe Love falls in love with Sacramento. The Kings, however, would likely need a third or fourth team in the trade to make Love to Sacramento a reality.”

The Wolves were said to be interested in Ben McLemore before Sacramento snagged him with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, so he along with the Kings No. 8 pick in the current draft seem to be a good starting point for discussions. However, the Kings lack tradeable assets after that point unless they want to significantly overpay. That creates a dilemma, which is why Jones seems to believe an additional team or two would be needed to help assist in the trade.

The Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics, among others, are also said to be courting Love so it’s safe to say all interested teams will have plenty of competition if such a move is to go down.
