We may have to wait until October to see the new crime drama Kill the Messenger, but thankfully we don’t have to wait the long to get our first real look at the movie. Yesterday, we gave you a look at the first poster for the upcoming thriller. Now, as promised, they have released the first official trailer for the film.
To say that this is an intense story may be one of the understatements of the year.
Kill the Messenger is based on the real-life story of a reporter named Gary Webb. Webb exposed the role of the CIA in arming Contra rebels and the importing of cocaine into the United States where the profits from said narcotics were funneled back into the Contras.
In the trailer, we see the moment in which Webb came upon this information and the journey that it sent him on in his effort to do what every reporter desires to do, expose the truth and get to the heart of the matter.
Unfortunately, this was not an easy journey for him, and certainly did not come with a pre-packaged happy ending to the story.
Here is a look at the first trailer for the upcoming film Kill the Messenger.
The film is being directed by Michael Cuesta, who has worked on television series like Homeland and Dexter. The script was written by Peter Landesman, and is based off of a book by Nick Schou and Gary Webb himself.
Kill the Messenger certainly doesn’t lack in the talent department. Avengers: Age of Ultron actor Jeremy Renner has been cast in the role of Gary Webb. The film also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen, Robert Patrick, Michael K. Williams,Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, and many more.
Kill the Messenger is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2014.
