There are reports that former Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley is visiting a “mystery team” after being cleared to play football again. Now the New England Patriots’ website, specifically staff writer Isaac Moore, is speculating that Finely’s mystery team could be the Patriots.

From Patriots.com:

"According to a NBC Sports report, former Packers tight end Jermichael Finley will be visiting a team this week after being medically cleared to play football again. Finely declined to mention the team’s name per the request of the organization, which sounds a lot like something Bill Belichick would ask. The 27-year-old tight end suffered a spinal chord contusion in 2013, but the neurosurgeon who performed Finley’s spinal fusion has since cleared him to resume football activities."

Some aren’t so crazy about the idea of adding Finley to the Patriots, like Andy Gresh.

“I’m not nuts about Jermichal Finley.” said Greshon on CSN’s Early Edition. “[Finley’s neck injuries] scare the hell out of me, and one hit over the middle, he’s done.”

“Who’s going to give him the most money, it’s not here… It’s a no-brainer for him to go back to Green Bay.”

The Patriots struggled with weapons last season, and specifically at tight end after what Aaron Hernandez’s arrest and Rob Gronkowski’s injuries. They might find that Finley is worth the risk, and he might come at a lower price because of his own injuries.

Gresh’s point makes sense though, I can’t imagine the Patriots would be offering more than the Packers.

Will Finley be with the Patriots in 2014?  Who knows.
