On Saturday afternoon, UFC middleweight Gegard Mousasi was able to put on a dominant performance over Mark Munoz which finished with a first-round submission stoppage.
After the fight, Mousasi spoke at the UFC Fight Night 41 post-fight press conference where he spoke about his future plans and hopes for his next bout.
Mousasi would not call out anyone specifically, but did say he wants a winner that will move him further up the middleweight ladder.
“Coming from a win, I’m going to get a winner,” Mousasi said. “So, if it’s going to be [Tim] Kennedy or Luke Rockhold, or anyone who’s coming off a win and is maybe a contender, that’s why I think maybe I’ll get one of those guys. But I’m not challenging anyone.”
If Mousasi gets his wish and takes on one of those top contenders, he is hoping that he can have one of the top spots on an upcoming fight card.
Specifically, Mousasi would like to fight on the September card in Japan in the co-main event slot.
“I would definitely like to fight in Japan,” Mousasi said. “The Japanese crowd is educated. I just like Japan. I know they already have a main event, so co-main event would be great.”
The UFC’s return to Japan will be headlined by a heavyweight slugfest between Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Mark Hunt.
If Mousasi is added to that card along with a top contender at middleweight, the top two bouts would be very appealing to fight fans all over the globe.
