Jose Bautista has become the master of the 9-3 put out. Two nights ago he gunned down Billy Butler on what looked like a clean single through the right side, and Friday he struck again, nailing Omar Infante on what looked like a routine pop foul down the right field line.

Of course Infante gives Bautista a little help by not bothering to run. What the hell man? Run to first! Don’t you know that’s Jose Bautista? He will throw you out, man. Just ask Billy Butler.

Clearly Infante thought the ball would be foul, so he figured he’d just stand there and watch the play unfold, maybe order himself a margarita. Bautista has to come running all the way over, dive and trap the ball, then pop up and throw to first to get the snoozing Infante. It’s a great and kind of lucky play.

Okay it’s very lucky.

And it wouldn’t have happened at all if Omar Infante had just run to first like he was supposed to. I guess he figures he isn’t getting paid enough to try on every fly ball. Yes Omar, let’s just assume the ball is foul so we don’t have to run.

Oh, are your little tootsies tired? Too bad.
