Anthony Rizzo, first baseman of the Chicago Cubs, was ejected from the game during Sunday’s 9-0 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Rizzo took all three pitches as strikes while at bat, objecting to the last two calls. He voiced his opinion to home plate umpire Jerry Meals, resulting in Rizzo being ejected from the game for the first time in his career.

Strike three appeared to be low and outside to many watching, but either way, Meals called it a strike and Rizzo should have just walked away. The fourth inning ejection also resulted in Cubs manager Rick Renteria approaching home plate during the incident. Originally walking over to pull Rizzo away, Renteria continued to discuss the call with Meals after Rizzo was gone.

When asked about it, Rizzo stated:

"“I didn’t agree with the calls obviously. I said my piece and definitely understand why I got ejected, and I’ll just move on with it.The first pitch was a good pitch, changeup. The next two I didn’t agree with at all. Kyle pitched a good game today. He’s impressive out there, and obviously that one at-bat, my emotions got to me a little bit, and I expressed them and I’m just going to take the day off tomorrow and be ready to go Tuesday.”"

The shutout loss was a hard blow to the entire team. Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija lasted only three innings, making it his shortest career start. The Cubs had an off day and will hopefully do as Rizzo plans and move on from it.

The Cubs begin a series against the New York Mets on Tuesday.
