The New York Knicks are still looking for a head coach to replace both Mike Woodson who was fired and Steve Kerr who spurned the team earlier this offseason to go out west to work for the Golden State Warriors.

More from NBA

Even before Kerr was a frontrunner to land the job, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Derek Fisher has been one of the names we’ve all been watching and it appears that he’s as free as he’s ever been to consider a coaching career. With the Thunder getting eliminated on Saturday night, Fisher is now going to decide if he wants to return to playing one more season or head to the bench for a coaching job.

According to Marc J. Spears though, Fisher hasn’t had any direct contact with NBA executives, including Phil Jackson and the Knicks about becoming a head coach.

This is understandable, as Fisher is a focused guy and has been trying to help the Thunder get to NBA Finals. That fight is over now and Fisher’s decision on coaching or playing will be coming soon.

New York isn’t the only team that has been looking at Fisher as a possible replacement, but they can’t afford to swing and miss on another candidate and getting Fisher could be huge for the progress of the Knicks this offseason.
