Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Wil Myers is headed to the DL with a wrist sprain reports the team’s official Twitter feed. To take Myers’ place on the roster, Tampa Bay has called up IF/OF Jerry Sands from AAA Durham.

Myers was injured on the last play of Tampa Bay’s loss to Boston Friday night when he collided with teammate Desmond Jennings while attempting to make a play on A.J. Pierzynski’s line drive. Myers’ outstretched glove just missed Pierzynski’s ball, which bounded away for a game-winning triple.

Myers was held out of Saturday’s game and was seen at the ballpark wearing a brace. He is hitting .227/.313/.354 on the season with 5 HR and 25 RBI. His replacement Sands last saw action in the majors in 2012 as a member of the Dodgers and sports a .244 lifetime average in 251 plate appearances.

The Rays were also without shortstop Yunel Escobar on Saturday as they dropped their second straight to Boston. The two teams finish up their contentious series Sunday at Fenway Park beginning at 12:35 PM ET.
