The French Open is underway and has seen some of tennis’ biggest names get sent home early, like Serena Williams. On Sunday Roger Federer lost to 18th seeded Ernests Gulbis in five sets 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, failing to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in 10 years. It was also the first time that Federer had lost a match that went five sets at Roland Garros.
Gulbis called it the best victory of his career and apologized to the crowd for beating their favorite player. Gulbis went on to say: “I hope I won over some fans so i can have some more fans against Tomas [Berdych] tomorrow.”
Twitter had mixed results on Federer being dismissed early, some fans speculating that it could be the end of his career and time for him to considering retirement. Some however were thrilled to see that Federer was sent hom early and wouldn’t be reaching the final.
Much like with Tiger Woods era coming to an end it looks like there is a parallel with Federer in tennis.
I think it’s time to say that we’ve seen Roger Federer win his last major. #FrenchOpen

Federer should win something substantial and retire. Just play charity games
