While the Indiana Pacers, namely Larry Bird have been very open about their desire to bring back swingman Lance Stephenson, the same can’t be said for point guard George Hill.

More from Boston Celtics

Bird, speaking to reporters, said he didn’t know what would happen regarding Hill’s status on the team suggesting that he ‘liked’ him, but in unsure what free agency will bring.

It was a rather vague comment, which is how Bird likely wanted to leave it. What wasn’t vague however was Bird speaking about Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo.

A few days ago rumors leaked suggesting the Pacers could make a trade offer for Rondo or possibly sign him out of free agency if he hits the open market next season, something that the NBA legend seems to think is rather unrealistic.

"Bird on Rajon Rondo: “He’s a very good player. Been great for a long time. It’s always good to daydream and wish for these guys but everything we do has to be through trades.”"

The Pacers president seems to all but disqualify the idea of signing Rondo outright, so, the only way the former Kentucky talent would be playing for the Pacers is via trade.

Add in the reported absurd asking price commanded by the Boston Celtics when Rondo may or may not have been available during the February trading deadline and it’s likely Indiana lacks the assets for such a move.

As for Hill, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over his future with the Pacers so it sounds possible there could be a new point guard in town next season.
