The New York Mets had no problem with the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend, winning three of four with one game remaining on their rather odd five-game set.

More from MLB

Marred with odd plays and significantly long rain delays, it’s certainly been a series to remember for things that have happened off the field, much like the Mets breaking a record for most cheesesteaks eaten by an opposing club.

Yep, the Phillies are kind enough to provide an all-you-can-eat buffet of cheesesteaks in the opposing clubhouse and even keep track of the sandwiches that are eaten.

It was a number that nobody expected as according to NJ.com, the Mets downed a record 103 cheesestakes in a ten-hour time frame as players waited through a rain delay.

“On April 30, over some ten hours, the Mets ate 103, they say, setting the new single-day team record. Though baseball may be a sequence of individualized events, this was the work of a collective. It was planned two cheesesteaks per person, or more for those that were willing to help out where other teammates could not eat their share.”

It’s not completely clear if the tally includes coaches or just players, but regardless, that’s a lot of sandwhiches and the thought is making my stomach slighly uneasy.

Didn’t seem to hurt the Mets however as they ran roughshod over the Phillies complete with full stomachs (and hopefully a well stocked restroom).

Maybe the Mets might want to bring a collection of cheesesteaks with them every time they have a road trip if the end results are this good.
