The Spurs have been considered the staple of success for the NBA, building championship contending teams through the draft for many years. As a result, Spurs fans have grown accustomed to such traditions, leading to shots fired at the Miami Heat, including a billboard recently posted in the San Antonio area.

The Spurs have used the draft to build their championship contending teams, with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobilli all having been drafted. Furthermore, key contributors like Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter were either drafted or acquired via draft day trades. Built on the foundation of drafted players, the Spurs are known for acquiring players who fit their system and incorporating newcomers into the offense.

More from Miami Heat

Meanwhile, much of the Miami Heat core has been assembled via free agency, with the notable free agents being LeBron James and Chris Bosh. The Heat, contrary to the Spurs, have brought in big names even since signing James and Bosh, bringing in players like Ray Allen, Michael Beasley, Rashard Lewis, and Greg Oden to help the team to their fourth consecutive Finals appearance.

The Heat and Spurs square off in the Finals for the second season in a row, with the Heat having taken the series in seven games last season. However, if not for a clutch (and miraculous) three-pointer in the closing seconds of Game 6, the Heat would have not been crowned champions.
