Whenever LeBron James‘ season comes to an end, be it with a disappointing loss in the NBA Finals or a historic three-peat, the former MVP will have two significant decisions to make. First, does he opt-out of his contract with the Miami Heat and second, if he does what’s next? Does he re-sign with the Miami Heat? Or does he test the free agent waters?

More from LeBron James

We’ve heard for weeks – hell – even months that James is more than comfortable in Miami and would be thrilled to re-sign with the Heat. And why not? He’s the best player on the best team in the league who’s coming off four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals. He’s playing in one of the most beautiful cities in the country and he’s teamed up with two All-Star players as his wing men.

I’m not sure there’s a better scenario in all of the NBA, though James says he hasn’t thought about it at all, suggesting that he’s focused on the moment and free agency hasn’t crossed his mind.

“No, because I live in the moment,” James said. “It’s almost the same with my individual accomplishments. I never really understand them. The only time I’ll be able to appreciate it is when I’m done playing the game. I’m in the moment. I don’t even think about it.”

It’s hard to believe that James hasn’t sat down for at least a moment to think about his future, especially with teammates Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade also facing potential free agency. Still, it appears as if James isn’t going to let the decision creep into his mindset as he attempts to lead the Heat into basketball infamy with their third consecutive NBA Championship.
