For the past few weeks now, although he was still an active player in the NBA, Derek Fisher’s name has been brought up on multiple occasions as a candidate for the New York Knicks’ head coaching vacancy. The move from player to coach this quickly would be made a lot easier by the fact that he’d be joining his former Lakers coach and current Knicks executive, Phil Jackson.

And according to a report from ESPN New York, with the Oklahoma City Thunder having been recently ousted from the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs, the two old friends are going to get together some time this week to discuss potential plans for Fisher to become the next head man of the Knicks.

"Sources told ESPN.com Monday that Jackson is planning to connect with Fisher by week’s end, giving the Oklahoma City Thunder guard some time to decompress after his team was eliminated by San Antonio Saturday night in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals."

Now of course, Fisher to the Knicks is anything but a guarantee as the Lakers team that he used to play for is also currently in search of a new head coach and have been said to have some interest in looking his way as well.

Still, the end of this week seems like a good time to start focusing on his potential head coaching career, as he’s probably had all the time he needs to let the sting from the playoff loss wear off, like he recently stated he would need.

“I’m still struggling with the results of [the series],” Fisher told local reporters Sunday. “I haven’t [had] a chance to talk to my wife and kind of step back emotionally from the end of the season. That’s important to do, so that whatever is next, there has to be a separation from the end of the season and what just happened and then I can go from there.”
