Former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman did some work with WWE over the recent WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans, and all things considered, he wasn’t that bad.
Since that appearance, rumors have been flying all over the place about where the former All-Pro stands with the company, and in a recent interview with the Miami Herald, WWE executive and superstar HHH delved a little deeper into that subject to clear the air a bit.
“Shawne has done some analyst work for us, done some stuff for the [WWE] Network. We are having conversations with Shawne, and it’s really going to come down to time and what he wants to do. Shawne expressed to me he had two dreams growing up. One was to be an NFL superstar, and he did that, and the other was to be a WWE superstar. He’s done one, and now he’s heavily contemplating the other. We’re in discussions. So we’ll see what happens, see where it goes. He’s a great guy, an amazing athlete, very smart, and we’d love to have him.”
Even while still in his playing days, it was widely known that Merriman was a pro wrestling fanatic, frequently attending the live events whenever he could.
Now as far as whether or not he can work in the ring will remain to be seen, if that’s a route that he chooses to go. Should he not, though, he really did do a good job in that analyst role over WrestleMania weekend and would be an asset to the company in that slot as well.
