Everyone on the North Side of Chicago, and virtually everywhere, know that the Chicago Cubs are boring to watch but the team’s level of boredom hit a new low this week when even their own employees can’t stay focused enough to pay attention to them.

The guy in charge of running the Wrigley Field scoreboard operator decided that rather than pay attention to the Cubs game against the New York Mets, he’d rather snooze and catch up on some sleep.

The only evidence of this nap is during the 5th inning, but there was a solid stretch from the from the top of the first to the bottom of the eight where neither team recorded a run. So all the guy had to do was add a few zeroes between innings, which really doesn’t seem as taxing as it apparently is.

Hopefully, he managed at least that.

And for the first time in weeks, the Cubs actually played a close game. Their last six games prior to last night’s game have been decided by four runs or more. He was probably preparing for another shut out, as they have been held scoreless three times in these last seven games. And despite making four pitching changes, they only allowed one run.

The Cubs play the Mets again tonight, which may make for yet another snoozefest. Maybe, just maybe, the Cubs will play some good baseball again or at least do something that doesn’t make the guy running the score of the game fall asleep out of sheer boredom.
