250 more players join NFL painkiller lawsuit

The painkiller lawsuit is gaining momentum, and the NFL is seemingly embroiled in more legal trouble. The players are accusing the NFL of illegally dispensed powerful narcotics and other drugs to keep players on the field without regard for their long term-health, as per the Associated Press.

Oh yeah, and they are dealing with concussion issues too, right? Well, this is getting out of hand.

The latest player additions to the suit roster include Marcellus Wiley, Jim McMahon, Richard Dent, Keith Van Horne and Jeremby Newberry. The NFL players explained they were provided Percodan, Percocet and Vicodin, anti-inflammatories such as Toradol, and sleep aids such as Ambien. Lead attorney Steve Silverman said the drugs were “handed out like candy at Halloween” and combined in “cocktails.”

Free drug cocktails, huh?

“The first thing people ask is, knowing what happened, would you do it again?” Marcellus Wiley said to the Associated Press. “No. No I wouldn’t.”

It seems, however, that the players may run into trouble proving cause and effect of the drugs. They have to prove they are suffering from side effects from the drugs — and they need to be suffering to a greater degree than most people their age. Once they prove that, they have to prove that it wasn’t caused by other factors like smoking, obesity, family history or knocking into each other like freight trains every Sunday. Not exactly and easy thing to pin down in a court of law. Something tells me, however, they will get their money. NFL players always do.
