California Chrome: Breathe Right nasal strip company strikes deal with Triple Crown hopeful's owners

We could very well be close to seeing one of the greatest sporting achievements in history this weekend as California Chrome will take to the track in Belmont just one win away from capturing the elusive Triple Crown which has not been won since 1977 when Affirmed accomplished the feat.

However, if you can remember back to a few weeks ago, California Chrome almost wasn’t in this position. Shortly after the horse’s dominant win at the Preakness to follow up the Kentucky Derby victory, it was reported that Chrome may not participate in the third leg of the Triple Crown as trainer Art Sherman was contemplating pulling his horse due to an issue over nasal strips.

Well, even with just the wins in the first two legs, Chrome is one of the more marketable athletes on the planet at the moment, so that’s why it’s no surprise that the famous nasal strip company, Breathe Right, decided to strike up a little deal with the horse’s owners.

You have to love marketing, and given the the buzz that Chrome possibly not competing this weekend because of the nasal strip issue generated, it only makes sense for both parties involved to partner up and make a few dollars.
