Diego Sanchez may have his hands full with Ross Pearson this weekend, but that hasn’t stopped him from calling out a former title challenger.
At a pre-fight scrum for UFC Fight Night Albuquerque, Sanchez stated that he wants to take on Nate Diaz after he disposes of Pearson.
“That’s the fight I want. He’s a crybaby, he’s a complainer, he’s an ingrate, and I wanna give him a little piece of humble pie,” Sanchez said. “With the UFC’s schedule being so busy, you have to look forward.”
Sanchez also noted that he wants the fight to take place in Mexico City, Mexico, as the UFC will debut there later this year. Sanchez called it his ‘second dream’, stating that fighting in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico in front of his friends and family was his first dream. According to Sanchez, the UFC has wanted to make a move into Mexico since he was on the original season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’
Sanchez said there would be between 160 to 180 members of his friends and family in attendance for the event this weekend.
Nate Diaz has sat on the sidelines for several months, rejecting several fights offered to him by the UFC, including a proposed bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Last month, the UFC removed Diaz from their official rankings for being inactive, which caused heavy scrutiny of the promotion.
UFC Fight Night takes place Saturday night from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and will air live on Fox Sports 1. The card will be main evented by former UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson taking on Rustam Khabilov.
