Saturday starts another huge weekend of fantasy baseball with all 30 teams scheduled to play with eight games in the afternoon and seven more under the lights. With so much baseball on the slate, there are plenty of options if you need a starting pitching boost to finish the week.
My picks are available each afternoon here on Fansided to help you find starting pitching on the wire (archive here). My recent results are available on the final slide of this post, but since I took a few days off the numbers are just getting underway for this month and an ugly Thursday resulted in some nasty numbers. My choices are always available in at least half of ESPN leagues. Each player’s ownership percentage is included in parentheses after their team name. I also include a risk and reward ranking for each pick on a scale of 1-5 with five being the most risk and the most reward.
Here’s the players I’m looking at picking up for Saturday:
Roenis Elias-Seattle Mariners (6.2%)
Elias is coming off his best start of his MLB career, but the Cuban rookie has been pretty solid for Seattle this season coming into Saturday’s start against the struggling Tampa Bay Rays.
Elias pitched a complete game shutout against the Tigers in his last outing allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out eight. He picked up his fourth win of the season to even his record while lowering his ERA to 3.53.
He hasn’t faced the Rays yet, and his home-road splits are fairly even. The way that Tampa has struggled, though, his matchup is still a pretty favorable one as he and the Mariners visit the Trop. The Rays are 5-13 against Lefty starters this season, so look for Elias to continue his recent success.
