The street course is designed to emulate elements you’d encounter in any urban setting, like stair sets, banks, manual pads, ledges, rails and quarterpipes.
The large field of skate boarders were divided into heats of 10 riders, and each got two runs on the course to get their best score. The top 12 riders, regardless of which heat they were in, will advance to the next round of the competition.
Judges are scoring the riders on degree of difficulty, variety, height, distance and execution of tricks. Continuity of run, originality, style and use of the entire course all factor into the score as well.
Round One, where the 12 advancing from Friday will compete in, will again have two runs to put up their best score. Those six riders with the best score will advance to the final.
