NHL Rumors: Dan Boyle not expected to sign with New York Islanders

A week after the New York Islanders acquired Dan Boyle from the San Jose Sharks, rumors abound that there is little to no chance that the defenseman will sign with the franchise.

Andy Strickland from CBS sports radio, tweeted a couple of statements regarding the decision.

In addition, Boyle is said to want to play for a contending team. The 37 year old suffered a severe concussion last season while playing with the Sharks and never quite played the same afterwards. After being let go from the Sharks, it makes sense that he will want to sign with the best team possible, seeing as he only has a few years left on the ice. But testing the free agent waters may be risky at his age and health level.

According to Boyle’s agent George Bazos, he is looking for a two year deal. He led the club’s defencemen with 36 points and 12 goals throughout 75 regular season games. He also added four assists during the Sharks first-round, seven-game playoff loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Throughout his career, Boyle played in 954 regular-season NHL games over 15 years with Florida, Tampa Bay and San Jose, and has 144 goals and 417 assists.
