An injury has forced a change in the upcoming monster UFC 175 card, but breathe easy–it’s a preliminary bout.
Santiago Ponzinibbio, was forced out of his planned welterweight tilt against Ildemar Alcantara. Instead, Kenny Robertson will replace him, according to Combate.
Robertson, who is in his second run with the UFC, had a submission of the year candidate in 2013, when he defeated Brock Jardine with a Suloev Stretch at UFC 157. The 30-year old American has been inconsistent however, going just 2-3 in the UFC, and 2-2 in his most recent run with the company.
Robertson was originally set to face Zak Cummings at UFC Fight Night 45 next month in Atlantic City, before Cummings was pulled in order to take on Gunnar Nelson at UFC Dublin. Robertson was left without an opponent, and will now compete a week and a half earlier than planned.
Alcantara has been impressive in his one 18 month UFC run, going 3-1, with his only loss coming via decision to Igor Araujo. The 20-6 Alcantara hasn’t been stopped in a fight in almost five years.
It’s interesting to note that Alcantara’s UFC debut was at light heavyweight, with a submission win over Wagner Prado, before dropping to 170 pounds for his next victory at Leandro Silva.
UFC 175 takes place on July 5 from Las Vegas, Nevada.
