WWE superstar Batista (real name David Bautista) did an interview with LeHighValleyLive.com where he discussed his acting endeavors, his return to the ring after four years, and why he’s a self-proclaimed geek.

More from WWE

Batista is making an appearance at the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con on June 21st, and had no problem stating his nerd status. “I’m such a geek. I love all the comic conventions.”

As for us wrestling geeks, Batista is leaving the WWE for the second time after a few month return to the company after four years of absence. He’s going back to the world that he brought himself to the first time he took a WWE hiatus. Acting.

Batista isn’t the first of his kind to make that transition, obviously The Rock (Dwayne Johnson in the movie world) shot up to superstardom via Hollywood from his launching pad in his wrestling roots.

Batista talks about how making movies garnered him a different kind of attention and fanbase.

“I feel refreshed, meeting fans who don’t know me from wrestling. It’s new and refreshing, not the same old ‘What was your favorite match’?”

For those curious, he says his favorite match was a non-televised match with Rey Mysterio in Mexico.

His movie appearances have included “Riddick” starring Vin Diesel, and his upcoming film “Guardians of the Galaxy”, a Marvel-Disney project where he co-stars with Zoe Saldana, and Diesel and Bradley Cooper who have their voices starring.

Batista wanted to prove himself as an actor and not the big tough guy stereotype only. He describes making that transition from wrestling when he left WWE in 2010. He says not an easy one.

“I had the same bills but no money coming in. I actually took jobs that would put me next to good actors. I kind of picked up some things from people here and there.”

Batista is happy to be back in the WWE (although taking a movie promotion break for “Guardians”) after such a long break, doing what he loves.

“I only stayed away so long because it took me longer than I thought it would to do the things … I wanted to accomplish. But at the end of the day, I love being a professional wrestler. That live, automatic feedback is what I crave.”
