Apple launching newer, faster iMacs next week

Apple recently displayed what they have up their sleeve at the annual WWDC.  What they didn’t say is they will be updating their iMac line next week.  According to a new report by MacGeneration, Apple will be releasing a new line of iMacs with lower prices and faster processors.

While at this stage things are still rumors until they are reported by Apple themselves, this information is from the same source that correctly predicted the MacBook Air Refresh.

The new iMacs are also slated to possibly include Thunderbolt 2 ports.  Apple is supposedly looking at releasing the new iMac line later in the week, instead of the typical Tuesday release for Apple products.

Apple made a pretty significant upgrade with the MacBook Air refresh upgrade and the same type of situation could be headed to the new iMac line.  The iMacs could end up being upgraded by something around 100MHz by using some newly released processors.

With specification upgrades coming, it is also likely that Apple could cut the price of the standard iMac configurations.

Yosemite, the newest version of Apple’s OS X, has also created some speculation about totally new iMacs in development.  Retina display could be on its way to the desktop based computers as well.  This could lend a hand in Apple being able to offer an iMac at two different price points, much like the idea behind the MacBook.  Apple could sell the Retina display based models at a higher price point than that of the non-Retina models.

Apple has done extremely well in the United States, but the lower price point could help the company expand into emerging markets like China as well.  At any rate, a price drop coupled with a performance upgrade is a nice boost for the iMac.
