The United States men’s national team opens their 2014 World Cup against Ghana, the team that has eliminated them from the past two World Cups. It is being labeled as a must win if the USMNT is to advance past the group stage of the tournament.
“We’ve certainly made no secret of the fact that all our focus at this point is about Ghana,” midfielder Michael Bradley said after training on Tuesday, via U.S. Soccer’s website. “[We’re] making sure that we do everything we can so that on June 16 we step on the field and are ready to leave it all out there knowing that a good result puts us in a really good spot.”
On Monday night, Ghana wrapped up their warm up games with a 4-0 win over South Korea. An impressive win, but Bradley says it isn’t intimidating or changing their opinion of Ghana.
“It would be easy to look at the end and say,’4-0, what a performance’,” Bradley said. “But still you know it’s a warm-up game, and regardless of how the game went last night, we have a lot of respect for Ghana.”
