One of the biggest controversies to come from UFC Fight Night 42 in Albuquerque last weekend was the decision to give Diego Sanchez the win over Ross Pearson despite Pearson dominating all three rounds of the fight.
UFC president Dana White finally sounded off on the decision and let his disgust be known, before announcing that he would be awarding Pearson his $30,000 win bonus for the fight.
“Diego lost that fight. The judge who judged that fight should never be judging fights again. He never should be judging fights of this caliber, he needs to go back down into the amateurs and really learn how to judge a fight,” White told UFC.com.
“First of all, you gave every round to Diego, who got dropped in the second round. It was a knockdown, how does Diego win that round? It’s not possible. I don’t know how you can vote against him, but it goes to show that you’re never safe. That’s as bad as it gets.”
For Pearson, the nightmare situation has become a thing of the past.
The UFC will be treating Pearson as though he won the fight, which everyone outside of two judges in Albuquerque and Diego Sanchez believe he did, and he will be giving a much bigger pay day.
Pearson also gets to move on to a bigger fight and put the Sanchez situation behind him.
While it will show up as a loss on Pearson’s record, he comes away the winner in more ways than one.
