Sometimes companies release new information at E3 and other times, the week provides a great opportunity to get exposure for facts about games that have yet to come to light.  While EA has had Titanfall out on the Xbox One, PC, and Xbox 360 for some time now, this week was great for some more exposure.  Today, the company unveiled that Titanfall is the best-selling Xbox One game to date.

Thanks to a conversation between Game Informer and EA’s chief operating officer, Peter Moore, we have some new insight into how well the game actually has done.

While it was expected that Titanfall would be a system seller, I’m not sure that Electronic Arts could have predicted this level of success.  In talking about the game, Moore said:

"“Sales are always going to be inhibited and governed by the install base, but [Titanfall] is attaching incredibly well.  Titanfall is the best selling title on Xbox One lifetime to date.”"

When talking with Game Informer about the shift of gaming to more mobile devices, digital downloads, and the way the console cycle works, Moore elaborated a bit more.

"“It was known as the burning platform meeting,” he told us. “[Former EA CEO John Riccitiello] laid out what the challenges for the industry were going to be. We had seen this with music. We were starting to see it with movies. We were starting to see new phones. That was enough to see a little bit of smoke on the horizon. John had the vision to say, ‘We’ve got to change ourselves and start to really diversify what we do.”"

The success of indie games and new developers is pretty astounding.  Games have come out of so many small studios as of late and Moore reminisced about earlier days when the barriers of entry were massive.

"“The barrier to entry in 2007, when it was tough to compete with companies like ourselves and Activision has come down radically. A guy in Vietnam can make Flappy Bird and it’s the lead story on CNN. If you can swipe an index finger, you’re a gamer nowadays, and that’s a huge opportunity for us. We see it as a big funnel that just continues to widen.”"

It is always interesting gaining extra insight into the industry from someone who lives and breathes it every day.  As EA continues to grow, Peter Moore will likely stay at the forefront and help to push the company towards future success.  Titanfall has been great, but it’s only the beginning.
