The United States wraps up group play with against Germany in what could become a very crucial match if they want to reach the knockout rounds. The United States won’t take a conservative approach and consequently allow their opponents to dictate the pace of the game.

“We want to be on the front foot,” USMNT defender Matt Besler said, via. U.S. Soccer’s “We’re not going to sit back for 90 minutes trying to get something off of a set piece or maybe off of one counter attack. We want to be a team that possesses the ball and that’s able to create multiple chances throughout the game. Like you said in the question, at this level when it gets to the teams that we’re going to face, we have to be extremely smart about how we’re going to go about that and we have to stay compact, we have to get our shape, and we have to make it tough for teams to break us down. If we can get the right balance, we’re going to be most effective. That’s what we’re trying to do as we approach the games.”
