The Grid series has seen some ups and downs throughout its short lifespan. The game is produced by the heralded company, Codemasters. Codemasters is also behind the other four letter named off-road title, DiRT. While it has been some time since Grid 2 was release, the game will be getting a reboot. Unfortunately for fans of the series, the reboot won’t be coming on next generation consoles.
Grid Autosport will be headed to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, as well as the PC, on June 24, 2014. The announcement means that fans of the series won’t have to wait too long before getting the opportunity to burn rubber around their favorite Grid track.
Codemasters will be allowing Grid Autosport freedom for racers, in the terms of multiple cars and multiple disciplines to race in. On top of the tradition title, Grid Autosport will also include a Black Edition.
Included in the Grid Autosport Black Edition is:
- Exclusive Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Coupe Black Series car
- Exclusive Black Edition white Ravenwest liveries for Black Edition cars
- Online premium sponsors
- 20 extra “Black Edition” online livery patterns
- 10 new sponsors with objectives
Grid came onto the scene amidst a flooded racing game market. With games like Forza and Gran Turismo already occupying the space, Grid seems to be a title that was focused combining true simulation racing elements, with the aspects that made the DiRT series so enjoyable. While the decision to make the game last generation only is puzzling, it seems Codemasters is ready to get the game back on track.
