After several underwhelming television ratings, the UFC received some good news from UFC Fight Night 42
According to reports, UFC Fight Night 42 from Albuquerque, averaged a 0.82 rating with 1,217,000 viewers. The show doubled the previous week’s event, which featured Stipe Miocic vs. Fabio Maldonado, which hit an extremely low total of 609,000 viewers. During the peak of Fight Night 42– between 12:45 and 1 AM– the show drew just over 1.5 million viewers, making it the third highest in the FS1 series since it’s launch last August.
Ben Henderson headlined the card, and was featured on Fox’s flagship network three times over the past year and a half, possibly accentuating his drawing ability. Henderson didn’t disappoint, emerging victorious over Rustam Khabilov via rear-naked choke in the fourth round– his first finish in the UFC, and first overall since 2010.
Fight Night 42 couldn’t quite reach the levels of the company’s debut on Fox Sports 1 last August, which reached 1.78 million viewers, but is an extremely positive step for both the UFC and Fox Sports 1. It’s worth noting that the UFC Fight Night event in which launched the Fox Sports 1 network last August featured the likes of Chael Sonnen, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Alistair Overeem, Travis Browne, Matt Brown, Conor McGregor, and bantamweight title challenger Michael McDonald.
