UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa adds new fights

As the UFC looks to run a record setting number of events in 2014, the company fills out its numerous UFC Fight Night cards, with their show in Tulsa, Oklahoma getting a couple of additions.

Tim Elliot (10-5) will take on Wilson Reis (17-5) in a flyweight bout in the UFC’s Fight Night 49 event on August 23 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Despite losing two fights in a row, Elliot is ranked number 9 in the shallow UFC flyweight division. Since starting his MMA career 0-2-1. Elliot’s only losses have come against the division’s premiere fighters, losing to title challengers John Dodson, Ali Bagautinov, and Joseph Benavidez.

Reis is coming off of a close, split decision loss to Iuri Alcantara, which put him at 1-1 in the UFC. This fight, like every other within the fledgling flyweight division is crucial, as three wins in a row can land a UFC Flyweight title shot.

Also added to the card was a featherweight fight between Tom Niinimaki (21-6) and Chas Skelly (11-1).

Niinimaki recently had his 12-fight winning streak come to a screeching halt at the hands of Niklas Backstrom at UFC Fight Night 41. Prior to that, Niinimaki held victories over Rani Yahya, Walel Watson and Chase Beebe.

Skelly also looks to work his way back into the win column, after experiencing the first loss of his pro career to Mirsad Bektic at UFC on Fox 11. Prior to that bout, Skelly was on an 11 fight winning streak, including wins at Legacy FC and Bellator.

UFC Fight Night 49 takes place August 23 from the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
