A light heavyweight fight has been added to July’s UFC on Fox 12 event from San Jose, with Patrick Cummins squaring off with Kyle Kingsbury.
Patrick Cummins was infamously hired by the UFC as a last minute replacement for highly ranked light heavyweight Rashad Evans to fight Daniel Cormier in February. Cummins was working at a coffee shop at the time, and was actually fired for taking Dana White’s phone call.
The fight with Cormier didn’t go Cummins’ way, as he was immediately crushed, but Cummins bounced back quickly, defeating Roger Narvaez via TKO at UFC Fight Night 42 just last weekend. Cummins looks for an even quicker turnaround this time.
Kyle Kingsbury’s career has been hot and cold, as he impressed many years ago with his four-fight UFC win streak. However, that was followed up by a three fight losing streak to the likes of Stephan Bonnar, Glover Teixeira, and Jimi Manuwa. This will be Kingsbury’s first fight since September of 2012. His opponent, Cummins, has fought four times during Kingsbury’s absence
The current UFC on Fox 12 card includes:
Matt Brown vs. Robbie Lawler
Anthony “Rumble Johnson” Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Michael Johnson vs. Josh Thomson
Daron Cruickshank vs. Jorge Masvidal
Dennis Bermudez vs. Clay Guida
Noad Lahat vs. Steven Siler
Patrick Cummins vs. Kyle Kingsbury
UFC on FOX 12 takes place July 26 at the SAP Center in San Jose. The main card will air on FOX following preliminary bouts on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
