The UFC 174 main card kicked off with a light heavyweight bout between Ovince Saint Preux and Ryan Jimmo.
Saint Preux has been one of the more intriguing fighters in the 205-pound division in recent months and a win over Jimmo could give Saint Preux the opportunity to take a step up in competition and face off with a top ten opponent.
Saint Preux entered the fight on a four-fight winning streak that included three finishes, while Jimmo was coming off of a first-round knockout victory over Sean O’Connell.
Who would walk away from the Octagon with a win on Saturday night?
Round 1: After a little feeling out process, Saint Preux closed the distance and began throwing some huge shots that were landing. Jimmo clinched up with Saint Preux and began pushing him against the cage. Saint Preux stayed calm with his back to the cage and eventually circled away. Both men got to the center of the octagon and Jimmo continued to stay light on his feet with some blood trickling out of Jimmo’s nose. Saint Preux tackled Jimmo to the mat as the round came to an end.
Round 2: Saint Preux landed a takedown after catching a kick from Jimmo to start the round, before immediately moving to mount. Jimmo gave up his back. Saint Preux began working for the rear-naked choke. Jimmo began saying that his arm was broken and the ref immediately stepped in to stop the fight.
