World Cup, updated Group C table: Ivory Coast into second, Colombia first

Group C at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil have all played their first game and we know how a clear picture of the table. Colombia took first place with an impressive 3-0 win over Greece in the opening game on Saturday.

The Saturday slate of games came to an end with Ivory Coast playing Japan. Surprisingly, Japan took the lead in the first half and held it into the second half.

In the 64th minute Ivory Coast got on the board with a goal on a header from Wilfried Bony. It was followed up two minutes later by a nearly identical goal from Gervinho, also a header. Both goals were set up by a Serge Aurier cross into the box in front of the goal.

Ivory Coast’s win moved them into second place with three points, but Colombia stayed on top the table with the better goal differential. That goal differential is also what put Japan in third ahead of Greece.
