Taking a foul tip off your catchers mask is never any fun. In high-school I never wanted to leave the field but sometimes you had to. I tried to learn to play catcher so that I was more valuable to the team and could swap into another position when the coaches tried to get playing time for other teammates. One hit with a tipped ball and I never sat behind the plate again.
Sunday, San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey did just that. He took a foul tip off a bat into his catchers mask. He was pulled from the game. Despite passing the concussion tests he hasn’t returned to the field since Sunday. That will change tomorrow when the catcher returns for the Giants against the Chicago White Socks.
Posey is batting .271 on the season and has knocked in 32 RBI’s and has gone yard nine times. He has 21 walks and 32 strikeouts as well. Posey was pinch hit for in the 4th inning by Hector Sanchez who hit a home run.
Posey was able to avoid the seven day concussion list.
The Giants are 6.5 games up on the Dodgers in the NL West while the White Sox are lingering below .500 in the AL Central.
