The premise of the show is quite simple although the conditions are far from easy.  Pair a man and a woman in the harshest of locations around the world and give them only a simple map and one luxury item.  Oh, and take away their clothes, their shoes, and any humility they may have left.

In previous episodes, contestants have been thrown in the Louisiana Bayou, the Amazon rain forest, Tanzania, and in the Maldives Islands.  They must “survive” 21 days on their own with no help from the camera crew unless there is an emergency.  They are forced to weather the elements, the lack of water, the lack of food, and each other.   The next season will most assuredly take contestants to more dangerous places around this rock we call Earth.

I first took an interest in this series thanks to a friend of mine, E.J. “Skullcrusher” Snyder.  E.J. happened to be one of my patients.  A former special forces officer E.J. served several tours in the Middle East and is now a survival instructor at Fort Bragg.  When he isn’t traipsing around the globe without clothes on.

Snyder has done two stints on the series.  His first was a successful trip to Tanzania and the 2nd was as a last second fill in for the Amazon episode.  He and his partners both completed their survival tests.  You may be able to find those episodes on demand.  Check your provider.

The kicker to all of this is that it is not a normal reality series.  There is no backstabbing, no outwitting, no outplaying, and no gold at the end of the tunnel.  These survivalists do this to test their own mental and physical challenges.  They do not get paid at the end for making it out.  They simply take with them the knowledge that they survived some of the harshest conditions known to man…and woman.

So give it a chance if you haven’t seen it and mark your calendar if you do watch it.  Then ask yourself, could you survive naked and afraid?  I tried in my one acre backyard but the neighbors kept yelling at me to put my clothes on.
