Video Games: The Movie is a Zach Braff produced documentary on the wonderful world of gaming. From pong, to Atari, to Xbox and a look beyond the gaming industry has changed incredibly over the years. It continues to change yearly.
The documentary is narrated by that Lord of the Rings dude, Sean Astin…or Goonies guy if you prefer. It highlights the rise of an empire from geeky in-home entertainment to a complete lifestyle and a genre of people known as “Gamers”.
“Games are a part of the human experience and permeate our culture now more than ever before,” said director Jeremy Snead. “I’m thrilled that my film will expose the world to a never-before-told story of the men and women who built this industry as well as what it has become and what it will continue to evolve into, and I’m thrilled to be partnering with Variance to bring it out to the world.”
We are likely to hear the words “graphics” and “pixels” quite a bit in this film as gameplay has evolved from the Pac Man universe and the linear game play and horizontal scrolling styles to open sandbox games and virtual reality worlds. The documentary focuses on the game style evolution both in graphics and platform designs. It will also take a look at the future of the gaming industry and what technology has in store for this branch of entertainment.
