Maryland head coach Randy Edsall on Penn State’s James Franklin: ‘Talk is cheap’
By Jack Crosby
The Maryland Terrapins and head coach Randy Edsall haven’t even played a game yet as members of the Big Ten, but they’ve already found themselves surrounded in a bit of a clash with one of the members, James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

It’s been no secret that, since taking over the Penn State program, Franklin has been on a recruiting tear throughout the country. Recently, while in the state of Maryland, he declared it the Lions’ “home,” and stated that all surrounding schools didn’t stand a chance.
Well, as you would expect, Edsall didn’t take too kindly to those comments, and he had a stern response for Franklin and his new conference rivals.
“Talk is cheap,” Edsall said, according to the York Dispatch.
Edsall went on to say that he and his team are not here to brag, just get the job done.
“We’re not gonna boast and brag,” Edsall told the Dispatch. “We’re more about substance at Maryland. We’re gonna find guys that fit the profile we’re looking for. We’re gonna worry about ourselves and not worry about anything else.”
The thing is, this could be a little bit of saltiness from Edsall, because quite frankly, he’s losing the recruiting battle thus far. Franklin has three recruits already in his 2015 class from the Maryland/D.C. area, while Edsall has none from Pennsylvania.
Nonetheless, you would definitely expect Edsall to stick up for his area, although eventually, he’s going to be the one that needs to show the action is being taken.
