You can’t have a Stanley Cup Finals without a Stanley Cup bet. The mayors of the respective cities have made as much clear over the years. This year, the stakes were as big as the two cities involved in the Finals. After the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers in five games, you knew it was only a matter of time until New York mayor Bill de Blasio paid up in painful fashion. Enter Jimmy Kimmel Live.
As part of his penance, de Blasio appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and sang I Love LA, as seen below.
Talk about a baritone. I don’t think the mayor did much more than fancifully talk into his microphone for a few minutes. Good thing he had kids to help him out. And how about LA mayor Eric Garcetti. Not only does the guy drop f-bombs at Cup parades, but he basically tells de Blasio to shove it with those New York dogs offered at the end. Garcetti looks like he’d fit right in with the rest of the guys in the Los Angeles Kings locker room.
The Rangers and Kings will have to wait a while for their rematch, but in the meantime, the teams will be gearing up for a week from Friday, on June 27th, when the first round of the NHL draft will begin.
