YouTube phenom making $4 million per year

YouTube is home to hundreds of thousands of gamers who post their videos hoping to become the next big thing on the video sharing site. Of course, they’re all facing the nearly impossible task of catching one man.

Felix Kjellberg, better known by his YouTube name of PewDiePie, is a content creator who creates Lets Play videos for an astounding 27 million subscribers. His success over the last few years has led to him becoming the most popular, and influential, gamer on the Internet, and it shows with the staggering amount he rakes in every year.

The Swedish gaming superstar makes $4 million per year, and no, that wasn’t a typo.

What does the YouTuber credit for becoming the most successful presence on the video site? A special connection with his fans.

“Unlike many professionally produced shows, I think I’ve established a much closer contact with my viewers, breaking the wall between the viewer and what’s behind the screen,” he told the Journal. “What I and other YouTubers do is a very different thing, it’s almost like hanging around and watching your pal play games. My fans care in a different way about what they are watching.”
