The UFC recently added a scintillating featherweight scrap to their UFC Fight Night 50 card in Connecticut on September 5th. Team Alpha Male member, Andre Fili, will take on the scrappy Blackzilian, Sean Soriano, in a fight that has all the makings of being a barn burner.
Both Soriano and Fili are neophytes in their respective UFC careers, but their potential is clearly apparent. Not only do both men train with elite mixed martial arts camps, their natural athleticism alongside their learning of technique could catapult either of these men to the top of the featherweight division in the coming years.
Soriano has fought only once in the UFC, a short notice bout against feared grappler Tatsuya Kawajiri back in January. Soriano, who was undefeated at the time, looked sharp in the first round, picking Kawajiri apart on the feet. In the beginning of the second round, Kawajiri desperately looked for the takedown and was successful in getting the fight to the mat. Moments later, Kawajiri latched on to the fight-ending rear naked choke to get his first UFC victory. Soriano will look to bounce back and prove his worth come September.
Fili is currently 1-1 in the UFC, losing his last bout to Max Holloway at UFC 172 via guillotine choke late in the third round. The bout was absolutely thrilling and really displayed the exciting style of Fili. Prior to losing to Holloway, Fili joined the UFC in October of last year as he defeated Jeremy Larsen by TKO in the second round.
UFC Fight Night 50 will be on a Friday night, running alongside a Bellator event which is being held under 10 miles away. An exciting lightweight bout between Joe Lauzon and Michael Chiesa has also been announced for the card as well.
