After bringing its messenger platform to iOS and Android in 2013, BlackBerry has announced that BlackBerry Messenger is now on its way to Windows Phone this July. Chief executive officer John Chen maid the announcing during Thursday morning’s earnings call.

There are no details regarding the features that the Windows Phone version of BBM will have for users, but it is expected that the program will offer the same things that iOS and Android users have at their disposal.

BBM on iOS and Android proved to be a major success when it was launched in October. In the first 24 hours of the program’s availability, BBM was downloaded more than 10 million times. The application allows users to send messages, pictures and files back-and-forth. It also includes read notifications.

Mike’s Musings: Back when BlackBerry phones were the king of the smartphone market, BBM was the absolute best way to keep in contact with business colleagues. The ability to send documents via phone messaging was such an underrated blessing at the time. The fact that the app still gets as much use as it does so many years later shows just how important it was, and still is, to the business world.
