What does Jameis Winston need to prove? On the football field and the baseball diamond, Florida State two-sport star has accomplished just about everything. In one season Winston has won the highest individual honor, the Heisman Trophy, and the highest college football team honor—a National Championship.

Those accomplishments and some off-field issues have led many to speculate over just how long Winston will stick it out in Tallahassee. Expect that to be a lot longer than most have speculated, as Winston’s dad told AL.com’s Jeff Sentell that his son will be staying for at least another two football seasons.

See, it seems that Winston and his family have a bigger goal in mind—earning a college degree.

“We want Jameis to succeed with one more year in baseball and two more years in football,” he said. “We’ve never strayed from our plan that he is going to be in college until he gets that degree.”

Given the riches likely ahead for him in the near future, it’s a decision most kids aren’t making today. After all, the NFL Draft just saw a record number of underclassmen declare for the draft and get drafted as well.

When you see that trend happening, it’s hard not to jump on the bandwagon and capitalize on what seems to be the height of one’s hype. However, Winston isn’t your typical hotshot college quarterback, despite how the media narrative has gone.

According to the AL.com piece, Winston entered college hoping to become a podiatrist, but has since changed his major from pre-med to an Eengineering degree in the biomedical or mechanical field. His father told Sentell that he expects his son to graduate in December of 2015, which puts him right on pace to play for the Seminoles through his junior season.

Yet, if there’s one thing we’ve come to know about Jameis Winston, it’s to expect the unexpected and we’re talking about two long years here. We all know anything could happen in that timeframe.
